Comfort Food Reinvented

Posted by: Heidi - April 5, 2012. Recipes

On a cold day there’s seriously nothing I love better than a plate full of mac-and-cheese.  The more cheese the better.  We all have our “comfort food,” that dish we know isn’t great for us but you just can’t help ourselves.  So how can we make these guilty pleasures a little less guilty?  Let’s re-think a few favorite comfort foods.

Mac and Cheese

I have a folder of mac-and-cheese recipes on my computer.  That’s how much I love it.  Most of them use less cheese and add more goodies to bring…

The 10 Germiest Places You Go

Posted by: Heidi - April 4, 2012. Uncategorized

It’s that time of year- cold season.  My daughter is working on her third cold in two months, and just last weekend my whole family caught a horrible stomach bug.  I’m pretty germ-conscious.  I wash my hands regularly, use a paper towel to open the door in public restrooms, and carry around a bottle of antibacterial gel in my purse.  Of course, there’s no way to completely avoid contact with germs.  They’re a normal part of life.  While I think it’s healthy to encounter germs in daily life (too little exposure can actually weaken your immune system, especially in children),…

DIY: Antibacterial Cleaner

In my last post I talked about the top 10 germiest places that you go on a regular basis.  So I thought it would be good to counter that post with some recipes for homemade antibacterial cleaning solutions.  Check out the recipes below- they’re affordable, easy to make, safe, and effective!

  • 20 to 30 drops tea tree oil

Although tea tree oil is a little pricey, you can make this recipe at least…

  1. Go to the mall- Malls are a great place to go walk around when it’s too cold to walk outside.  One of the malls near us even has a kids play area inside.  My only problem with this activity is that it makes me want to buy

The Reason For The Season

Posted by: Heidi - December 18, 2010. Uncategorized

Are you finished your Christmas shopping??  I’m not!  Each and every single year I ask myself  how it can be possible that we all have an ENTIRE year to get this done and it still comes done to the wire!  Shoppers are just crazy right now.  I feel like when I go into a store or the mall I have to hang on to my girls for dear life because of all the rude ill mannered people out there.  And worse then the stores and malls are the parking lots.  It’s like people completely throw safety out the window just…
